Background

Robin’s Nest is a family owned nursery where we nurture and prepare children in a warm and loving environment before they are ready to fly the nest and spread their wings. We are located in the heart of Walsall, West Midlands and boast a spacious building with ample outdoor playgrounds.

We have a longstanding dedicated team of nursery nurses. Our staff are fully committed to providing the best quality day care using our key worker system. All activities are carefully tailored to coincide with each child’s particular stage in his/her developmental area: physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and creative.

We recognise that the all children’s needs are unique and paramount. We ensure we give the child and parents/main carer support.

Objectives

We aim to provide comprehensive childcare care by:

  • fostering creativity and instil an excitement about learning
  • providing a safe and secure environment which extends and develops all areas of a child’s development
  • enabling all children to develop their skills to the best of their ability
  • promoting self-discovery, exploration and curiosity
  • maintaining the standards and guidance set by Ofsted and to regularly reflect and develop our nursery
  • providing a good working relationship with parents/carers and children
  • encouraging excellent manners, good habits and best behaviour
  • Emphasising the importance of healthy nutrition

Learning & Development

We use the Early years foundation stage to inform how we deliver our learning and development, experiences and opportunities are planned and derived from children’s interests across the 7 areas of learning:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

We use pre-planned and spontaneous in the moment planning to ensure children are meeting all areas of learning. We aim to make our learning as fun and exciting as possible to ensure children have high levels of engagement.

Nutrition

What children eat play a critical role in determining their health. The eating patterns established in the first few years of life influence health during childhood and adulthood. Encouraging good nutrition during the early years of life is therefore an investment at Robin’s Nest nursery as we know how essential it is to their health.

With this in mind, we provide nutritious meals, snacks and drinks from our four week menu to ensure repetitiveness is kept to a minimum and the children receive a varied palette of food.

Our onsite cook provides homely meals from our 5* rated kitchen; where we also offer vegetarian and gluten free options on request.

Facilities

Robin’s Nest is a single level converted building, which houses four core base rooms with a large open outdoor area. We are located next to a park and field and close to all major transport links and new builds.

We have children-sized toilets appropriate for toilet training, along with cots and changing facilities for small babies.

Safety, Safeguarding & Security

Our approach to safety and security is holistic; beginning at the front door and continuing right through to staff selection, training and, of course, security systems and safety procedures.

There are two front doors where there is a holding area so only authorised personnel can enter the building. The nursery is protected by high walls and a barrier for extra security.

When recruiting our staff, we only choose people who genuinely love working with children. As many of us are parents ourselves, we understand the high level of trust required to hand your child over to other caregivers. Our staff undergo our stringent vetting process which includes Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) checks at enhanced level.

We go to great lengths to keep our nursery and children safe at all times. We always have a first aider on duty within the nursery at all times. All of our nursery staff receive training, so that urgent intervention is immediately on hand in the unlikely event of it being required.
